Description:
This project enhances the economic and climate resilience of the African population, in particular women and youth, post COVID-19. Project activities include: (1) developing a gender-responsive roadmap, toolkit and metrics to implement the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan and measure progress on action and desired outcomes; (2) conducting a gender-responsive capacity needs assessment of at least seven African Union member states and three Regional Economic Communities; (3) developing and delivering a capacity building program on the implementation of the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan, which targets 360 policymakers - with at least 40% women and youth; (4) establishing a Climate Finance Unit within the African Union Commission and developing an inclusive National Climate Finance Strategy for African Union member states; (5) hosting six African Union Green Finance Investor Roundtables; and (6) providing targeted training on climate finance to at least 75 officials directly linked with Ministries of Finance in AU member states.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened the African Union Commission’s ability to implement the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan; (2) enhanced skills of national and regional policymakers to develop inclusive green growth policies, plans and programs in alignment with their nationally determined contributions and climate change strategies; and (3) improved ability for governments and partners to access climate finance for Africa’s green recovery, aimed in particular at initiatives that support women and youth.
