Description:

The "Children Associated with Armed Forces and Groups (CAAFAG): Prevention, Safe Release, and Reintegration in Mozambique" project aims to enhance the protection, well-being and empowerment of vulnerable children, particularly girls, affected by armed conflict in northern Mozambique. The project will: 1) Prevent recruitment and use of children by armed forces and groups through profiling of vulnerable children, providing alternatives, engaging communities in dialogues, and advocating for the implementation of key child protection policies; 2) Reintegrate children associated to armed forces and groups (CAAFAG) into their communities through safe release, access to gender-responsive services and psychosocial support, as well as durable, family-based solutions; and 3) Promote gender equality and empowerment through enhanced access of children to gender-responsive care, services and programs tailored to their specific needs. The project will build the capacity of support service providers and the resilience of communities most vulnerable to armed groups in northern Mozambique.

Expected Results:

The project will directly benefit 300 CAAFAG (40% girls) per year (900 children in total). These children will receive comprehensive protection services, gender-responsive reintegration assistance and programming. 14,400 (1,296 women, 864 men,6,487 girls, 5,753 boys) will benefit directly from protection services at community level that support prevention, safe release and reintegration. 40,000 community members (approximately 4,000 in 10 communities) in target locations will indirectly benefit from the improved security, protection, and support provided to the children.
