Description:
November 2024 - Yemen remains one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with over 18 million people estimated in need of assistance, or two-thirds of the population. The country has suffered decades of food insecurity due to a combination of drought, conflict, poverty and corruption . According to the August 2024 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, Taiz region is experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity with 39% of the population in IPC Phase 3 and 14% facing severe food insecurity (IPC Phase 4). With GAC’s support, Save the Children Canada aims to reduce suffering, increase and maintain human dignity, and save the live of 153,507 crisis-affected girls, boys, women, and men in Al Ma’afer, Al Mawasit, and Maqbanah Districts, Taiz Governorate in Yemen. Project activities include: (1) providing gender-responsive nutrition services through targeted health facilities treating severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) cases in girls and boys under 5 and Pregnant and Lactating Women and girls; (2) training health workers on optimal gender-responsive Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies practices; (3) establishing and maintaining waste segregation and disposal systems in targeted Health Facilities (HFs); (4) distributing hygiene kits to families of children with SAM and MAM cases in targeted HFs; and (5) providing gender-responsive protection services including referral, case management, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at community level and at identified Sexual and Gender-based violence shelters.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved nutritional status among girls and boys under 5 years and pregnant and lactating women and girls; and (2) enhanced protective environment in which risks (e.g. abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other forms of violence including SGBV) are mitigated for girls, boys and women.
