Description:
This project aims to strengthen national safety and gender-responsive recovery in Ukraine through increased and sustained employment of women in the demining sector and emergency services. Project activities include: (1) supporting women’s empowerment and confidence to enter sectors traditionally dominated by men through innovative mental health interventions; (2) transforming gender stereotypes and societal barriers to women’s participation in demining and emergency services through strategic dissemination of research, targeted media campaigns, and comprehensive mentorship programs; and (3) equipping women with the necessary technical skills and certifications for roles in demining and emergency services through structured training programs and facilitated access to employment.

Expected Results:

The expected outcome of this project includes enhanced capacity of the Ukrainian government institutions at all levels, women’s right organizations, and women activists. It does so to strengthen women’s meaningful participation in the Women, Peace and Security agenda, in line with Ukraine's National Action Plan 1325 commitments.

Program Purpose:

The Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOPs) is an integral component of the Government of Canada’s toolbox to prevent and respond to conflicts and crises abroad. It supports rapid, effective, whole-of-government coordinated responses to a wide range of challenges and serves as a valuable instrument for supporting stability in conflict-affected regions. PSOPs provides visible and concrete assistance in response to conflicts and crises abroad through targeted programming, the deployment of Canadian police officers (in partnership with Public Safety Canada and the RCMP) and civilian personnel, and direct support to the UN and multilateral peace operations, conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding efforts.
