Description:
This project aims to improve learning outcomes for women and girls in fragile and conflict-afflicted settings. It supports the Safe to learn campaign, a global, inter-agency and multi-country initiative, dedicated to ending violence in and around schools, so children are free to learn, thrive and pursue their dreams. The project focuses on addressing violence as a barrier to girls’ education and providing support for developing materials to enhance the integration of gender equality across the Safe to learn campaign.
This project represents the second phase of additional funds provided by GAC to UNICEF for Safe to learn. It aims to implement the initiative in Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger and Togo with regional and global activities.
Project activities include: (1) increasing the knowledge and capacity of girls and boys, teachers, administrators, community members and religious leaders, to recognize the impact of violence in and around schools; (2) promoting positive gender equitable norms and preventing hara

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened legislative and policy frameworks to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in and around schools; (2) enhanced school-based measures to prevent and respond to School-related gender-based violence (SRGBV); (3) increased action by parents, teachers, children, local government, and community leaders to shift social and gender norms and behaviours that contribute to SRGBV in and around schools; (4) increased proportion of out-of-school girls equipped with quality education and skills development; and (5) strengthened strategic advocacy and coordination at global and country levels to elevate the role of education in ending violence against children in, around, and through schools.
