Belated reporting.
A key objective for Canada's participation in the PIC is to promote peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is overcoming a legacy of armed ethnic conflict, and where there are persistent ethnic tensions, as well as risks to regional stability posed by drug smuggling and human trafficking activities. Through membership in the PIC and its Steering Board, Canada participates in concerted, multilateral efforts to achieve a stable, multi-ethnic and democratic state in BiH, fully integrated in Euro-Atlantic structures. As a Steering Board member, Canada is among a small number of countries which provides political guidance to the High Representative, who has a mandate to oversee implementation of the civilian aspects of the Dayton Accords until Bosnia and Herzegovina is deemed politically and democratically stable and self-sustainable.
