Grants and Contributions:
Canada’s annual assessed contribution is a legally binding obligation of membership and a non-discretionary expenditure.
Canada actively works on the non-proliferation and disarmament of weapons of mass destruction as well as to restrict or prohibit the use of objectionable conventional weapons, bearing in mind the right of states to self-defence.
Canada’s membership in these conventions is aligned with DFATD’s strategic direction as defined in the Department’s Program Activity Architecture (PAA). It contributes directly to the achievement of DFATD’s strategic outcome entitled “Canada’s International Agenda”, which seeks to ensure that “the international agenda is shaped to Canada’s benefit and advantage in accordance with Canadian interests and values”.
