Grants and Contributions:
The expected results as formulated by the Organisation internationale de la francophonie include: (1) the use of French is strengthened and cultural diversity is preserved; (2) democratic practices and standards are more widely accepted; (3) the rule of law and human rights are more respected; (4) national education systems are strengthened and teacher qualifications are improved; (5) member countries have adapted their training systems to improve the employability and social integration of youth and women; and (6) national sustainable development strategies are implemented in Francophone developing countries.
The purpose of the class contribution to projects and development activities resulting from Summits of La Francophonie is to fulfill Canadian commitments related to follow-up actions to the Summits.
This contribution is an instrument for action and political presence that should make it possible to :
a) fund OIF programming, the main vehicle for Francophone multilateral cooperation, approved by the heads of state and government at the Summits and other poerating agencies: the University Agency of La Francophonie (AUF), the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF) and TV5 Africa;
b) provide concrete affirmation of Canada’s support for La Francophonie. Canada’s participation in the international Francophonie reflects the importance it attaches to Canada’s linguistic duality, cultural diversity and values of solidarity;
c) support La Francophonie’s key missions, which are reflected in the OIF’s priority themes;
e) encourage actions benefiting women and youth, two groups that remain central to the concerns of La Francophonie;
f) promote Canadian expertise and experience throughout the Francophone world;
g) foster participation by New Brunswick, which has participating government status within the OIF, in the bodies of Francophone institutions and in Francophone multilateral cooperation.
