Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal
Program Purpose:
The purpose of Canada’s membership in the Basel Convention is to further the Government of Canada’s foreign policy goals and provide it with a voice in the international community.
Canada’s participation and contribution to achieving the objectives of the Basel Convention is also of relevance to the Government’s overall agenda as outlined in the April 2006 Speech from the Throne, whereby the Government committed to take measures to achieve tangible improvements in our environment and through reductions in pollution.
