In response to the proliferation of highly damaging disinformation campaigns concerning weapons of mass destruction (WMD), this project will build on the highly successful pilot initiative, which developed a concerted and coordinated platform to counter all manner of WMD disinformation. With an initial focus on Russia’s relentless false WMD allegations as part of its illegal war in Ukraine, and spear-headed by Canada on behalf of the G7 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction (GP), this next phase looks to expand in scope, providing tailored and more nuanced region-specific tools and materials for diplomats to address the broader range of WMD disinformation threats globally, with greater emphasis on disinformation campaigns in Africa, the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific region and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as keeping a large emphasis on Ukraine.
