Description:
This project will support the delivery of the 9th World One Health Congress (WOHC) in Lisbon, Portugal in September 2026, which will strengthen global health security by connecting One Health science and global health security policy communities to advance collaboration to mitigate all manner of biological threats, whether deliberate, natural or accidental in nature. Project activities include: (1) execution of the four-day 9th WOHC; (2) organization of dedicated panel sessions on biological threat reduction; (3) delivery of workshop that profiles the Signature Initiative to Mitigate Biological Threats in Africa (SIMBA)’s Lusophone Network; and (4) implementation of a “One Health Fellowship” grant program prioritizing applicants from low-income countries.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced awareness and action to prevent, detect and respond to deliberate biological threats; (2) improved engagement between scientific and global health security policy communities; increased knowledge and understanding amongst delegates of zoonotic diseases and health-security emergencies; (3) increased knowledge and understanding of gender equality priorities amongst delegates; and (4) increased access to networks and collaboration opportunities for the security, science and policy communities.
