Description:

This project aims to strengthen water security and climate resilience in municipalities and local communities located in Peru’s mining regions, especially for vulnerable women and men. This includes mobilizing close to $40 million USD in additional public and private investments, to ensure water availability for thousands of Peruvians and the private sector. Project activities include: (1) restoring and sustainably managing 20,000 hectares of critical water ecosystems; (2) strengthening the capacity of Peruvian authorities to more effectively manage natural water infrastructure; (3) expanding community access to nature based water management solutions and technologies; (4) improving policy frameworks that promote long term investment in water resources; and (5) integrating nature based tools and policies into national institutions and water utilities to benefit close to 60,000 people and help secure the long term sustainability of Peru’s natural water infrastructure systems.

Expected Results:

The expected outcome of this project include: (1) increased implementation of nature-based solutions’ investments with effective participation of local communities, especially women, in priority watersheds; and (2) strengthened institutional capacity and policy frameworks to sustain and scale nature-based solutions’ investments in Peru.
