Description:
January 2026 — Weeks of intense rainfall have triggered severe and historically significant flooding across southern and central Mozambique, affecting an estimated 700,000 people. Entire communities have been displaced, food crops have been lost, and essential public infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
With funding from Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Red Cross will support the efforts of the Mozambique Red Cross to provide emergency shelter and basic household items, safe water and sanitation, and protection assistance to flood-affected communities. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter and non-food items, (2) improving access to safe water and sanitation, and (3) supporting protection services for vulnerable community members.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved access to essential shelter and emergency relief items; (2) increased access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services; and (3) improved protection for vulnerable community members.
The expected ultimate outcome is to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
