Description:
This project aims to support project preparation to develop sustainable regional energy infrastructure in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states. It represents Canada's contribution to the Regional Connectivity Fund Multi-Partner Trust Fund. The project focuses on enhancing regional energy connectivity and growth in Southeast Asia by contributing to the objectives of the ASEAN Power Grid for ASEAN’s transition to a low carbon, integrated, and resilient regional economy. It seeks to strengthen energy security and resilience, while fostering regional inclusive and sustainable economic growth by developing and implementing public and private sector-led projects.
Project activities include: (1) providing project preparation support; (2) facilitating project readiness and investment planning; and (3) strengthening capacity building and knowledge exchange.
Beneficiaries include ASEAN member states’ government agencies, state-owned power utilities and energy regulators, public and private sector developers, and regional institutions such as the ASEAN Centre for Energy.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved regional energy connectivity projects’ bankability and readiness for financing; (2) improved enabling environment for grid projects’ development through regulatory support and facilitating engagement between project sponsors and financiers; and (3) enhanced private finance mobilization.
