Blue Resilience: Eco-DRR for Solomon Islands and Vanuatu (BRED)
Agreement Number:
7475297 P016938001
Agreement Value:
$4,500,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 18, 2026 - Sep 30, 2029
Description:
The project is a 3.5-year initiative that strengthens climate and disaster resilience in the remote provinces of Torba (Vanuatu) and Temotu (Solomon Islands). Implemented through Indigenous-led, gender-responsive, and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) approaches, it responds to escalating climate hazards and the limited reach of centralized disaster systems in outer-island contexts. Working with Indigenous communities, local organizations, and provincial and national authorities, BRED supports the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems, advances marine protected areas, and revitalizes traditional stewardship practices. The project also promotes climate-resilient livelihoods particularly for Indigenous women, through regenerative blue-economy, agri-food, and renewable-energy value chains that strengthen food, water, and energy security while reducing pressure on fragile ecosystems.
Organization:
Global Affairs Canada
Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened, inclusive, and gender-responsive disaster risk reduction governance and ecosystem-based DRRM systems at community, provincial, and national levels in Torba (Vanuatu) and Temotu (Solomon Islands); (2) expanded skills, leadership, and economic participation of Indigenous women through climate-resilient, regenerative blue-economy, agri-food, and renewable-energy livelihoods that reduce pressure on fragile coastal ecosystems; and (3) enhanced climate and disaster resilience, food security, and wellbeing of remote Indigenous communities through improved early-warning systems, ecosystem protection and restoration, and diversified, sustainable livelihoods.
