Program Purpose:
The purpose of Canada’s membership in the OSCE is to further the Government of Canada’s foreign policy goals related to human rights, fundamental freedoms, fragile states, democratization, conflict prevention, and post-conflict development. OSCE engagement provides Canada with influence in the international community, and gives us a window on strategic regions of interest, including where Canada’s diplomatic presence is relatively limited. To this end, Canada pays a “membership fee” to the OSCE through an annual assessed budget contribution.
