Description:
P000587001: This initiative seeks to assist women micro-entrepreneurs in the food, clothing, and home-style sectors to successfully and sustainably grow their businesses. The project aims to help women entrepreneurs enhance their products and improve their productivity, marketing, and compliance with safety and business regulations and standards. It also aims to help them connect to domestic and global markets. The project works with key national government agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry, local governments and the private sector to make business development programs and services more environmentally sustainable and responsive to the needs of women entrepreneurs. The project expects to benefit approximately 12,000 women’s micro-enterprises, out of an estimated total of 46,000 in the relevant subsectors.
The project also helps the Philippine Commission on Women to implement the Magna Carta of Women, a comprehensive women's human rights law that seeks to eliminate discrimination against Filipino women, with a specific focus on women’s economic empowerment.
As with all program based approaches, Canada works in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of the Philippines to strengthen its aid effectiveness, by focussing on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increasing donor coordination; and strengthening mutual accountability. The initiative fosters greater policy dialogue among donors, government, and private sector, thus contributing to long-term development results. This initiative is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors through the joint government-donor Official Development Assistance - Gender and Development Network.
