Description:
P001187001: This project aims to improve access to maternal and newborn services and enhance the health of the vulnerable and poor of Bauchi State, Nigeria. Activities include: (1) increasing the knowledge of women of child bearing age and community leaders on maternal and newborn health and family planning; (2) improving the skills and capacities of health service providers, the availability of medicines and supplies, and the state of health care centres; and (3) improving health governance groups to ensure these interventions are sustainable. Ultimately, the project seeks to reduce maternal and newborn mortality. P001187002: This portion of the larger project works to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Activities include: (1) develop and disseminate information through text messaging, social media, radios and home visits on hygiene, infection prevention, COVID-19, maternal, neonatal, sexual health and prevention of sexual gender based violence; (2) provide gender responsive and safe transportation services and reimbursable transportation vouchers for poor and vulnerable women and adolescents for reproductive, neonatal, sexual health emergencies and confirmed cases of COVID-19; and (3) Train Quality Improvement Teams and Ward Development Committees on gender responsive COVID-19 response.

Expected Results:

P001187001: The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (1) improved utilization of basic and targeted maternal and neonatal health services among women of reproductive age and male community members; 2) improved quality of maternal, neonatal and sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning services, for women of reproductive age, newborns and male community members; 3) improved local health governance systems ensure high quality, gender responsive and result oriented maternal and neonatal health services.

P001187002: The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (1) improved equitable access to maternal and newborn services and enhanced health outcomes of 760,000 women of child-bearing age, 430,000 newborns, and 600,000 fathers and potential fathers; (2) increased knowledge of women, men and community leaders on maternal and newborn health; (3) community health workers trained in gender-responsive planning, service provision and referrals; (4) improved availability of medicines and supplies; and (5) strengthened capacity of health governance/oversight groups to ensure sustainability.
