Description:
In Mozambique, among the main contributing factors to girls dropping out from school are pregnancy and sexual abuse and harassment at all levels of education, including in primary and secondary schools. To both address sexual predation in schools and the number of pregnancies amongst girls, the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) passed ministerial decree 39/2003, which aims to apply sanctions for cases of sexual harassment and abuse committed by teachers and other school staff, but it offers limited education options for girls, often forcing girls to drop out of school. The project supports the Movimento de Educação para Todos’ advocacy efforts, generation of evidence, legal consultations, and the revision of the education ministry’s decree.
