Description:
This project aims to address the need for a prioritized and coordinated effort across the Government of Iraq to improve its explosive hazard management. The project helps to build the Government of Iraq’s institutional capacity to support long-term explosive hazard management operations to serve the needs of mine-affected communities in an effective, gender-inclusive and sustainable manner. Project activities include: (1) establishing a streamlined gender-sensitive reporting system of suspected explosive hazards; (2) conducting organizational assessments of relevant Government of Iraq institutions; (3) providing training sessions on leadership and coordination skills for Government of Iraq stakeholders; (4) hiring gender specialists to provide training sessions on gender mainstreaming for relevant Government of Iraq institutions; and (5) providing technical support to policy and systems reform.

Expected Results:
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the Government of Iraq has a well-coordinated response to explosive hazards and has adopted a gender-mainstreamed approach to explosive hazard management; and (2) the Iraqi Directorate of Mine Action and the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency mainstream gender in their prioritization and planning processes.
