Description:
This project aims to provide support to the United Nations Development Program, which has established the Peace Support Facility in order to provide the UN Special Envoy for Yemen accessible funding for tangible initiatives, which can be quickly implemented to reinforce UN-brokered peace agreements for Yemen. These initiatives work to increase support amongst the population for the peace process by providing currently unavailable essential services. Project activities include: (1) implementing the Hodeidah agreement and new initiatives requested by the parties with a clear link to the Stockholm agreement or any other future agreement between Yemeni parties under UN auspices; (2) delivering activities that are emerging out of existing Track II initiatives; and (3) providing support to transitional governance arrangements as and when the parties agree.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include:
(1) increased confidence between Houthis and Government of Yemen representatives in the peace process;
(2) increased support for negotiated agreements amongst the population; and
(3) essential services provided to conflict affected populations.

Peace and Stabilization Operations
Program Purpose:

The Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOPs) is an integral component of the Government of Canada’s toolbox to prevent and respond to conflicts and crises abroad. It supports rapid, effective, whole-of-government coordinated responses to a wide range of challenges and serves as a valuable instrument for supporting stability in conflict-affected regions. PSOPs provides visible and concrete assistance in response to conflicts and crises abroad through targeted programming, the deployment of Canadian police officers (in partnership with Public Safety Canada and the RCMP) and civilian personnel, and direct support to the UN and multilateral peace operations, conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding efforts.
