Description:
The project supports the Justice and Peace in Mali aims to empower women, girls and people in situations of vulnerability to transform their human rights into reality, through a gender equality perspective, the transformation of power relations, reconciliation and peace in Mali. This project intends to foster constructive dialogue between the different actors involved in or affected by the 2012 conflict, the violence committed against civilians and other human rights violations. This is done to reduce the incidence of violence and rights violations through participatory and inclusive approaches based on international human rights protection standards. This project supports and strengthens the work of civil society and justice actors, as well as the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC), and state-established transitional justice mechanisms. Project activities include: (1) implementing education campaigns on human rights, access to justice, the fight against gender-based violence, and analyzing the results of the TJRC’s work for women, girls and people in situation of vulnerability; (2) offering legal services and psychological support to those subject to litigation; (3) providing legal training and building the capacity of civil society organizations and justice actors; and (4) training women, girls and other affected people on alternative conflict prevention and resolution. This project aims to directly benefit more than 500 000 people in the regions of Bamako, Gao, Kidal, Mopti, Segou and Timbuktu.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include: 1) increased use of legal services and recourse by women, girls and other vulnerable people in order to help them take better control over their lives and transform power relations between men and women; 2) increased effectiveness of women, girls and other vulnerable people, as well as civil society organizations and justice stakeholders involved in the fight against impunity and gender-based violence and discrimination; and 3) increased participation of women, girls and other vulnerable people in making decisions regarding the building and consolidation of peace and reconciliation.
