Description:
World Vision Canada’s COVID-19 response in Zimbabwe will employ a multi-pronged approach to decrease COVID-19 mortality and morbidity among marginalized populations, with a particular focus on women and girls. Targeted populations experiencing marginalization in Zimbabwe face multiple barriers that restrict their ability to prevent, seek treatment for, and recover from COVID-19.
This project will aim to increase equitable coverage of public health and health care services for people infected with COVID-19 and improve community response to and recovery from COVID-19, that includes specific measures for women and girls and those experiencing displacement. Project activities include: procuring and distributing COVID-19 related equipment and supplies to targeted health facilities and workers; training health providers in gender-sensitive COVID-19 infection, prevention and control; enhancing water and handwashing systems in the Tongogara Refugee Camp; and conducting a gender-informed COVID-19 public health measures awareness campaign.
This initiative is expected to reach an estimated 77,608 individuals. Of this total, the project will reach 17,433 residents (refugees and asylum seekers) of the Tongogara Refugee Camp, inclusive of an estimated 20% of the catchment of Chipinge district health facilities, as well as host community members.
