Description:
This project addresses the political, structural and legislative barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment, which are both essential to poverty reduction and sustainable development in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries. The project fosters gender responsive governance for women and vulnerable populations in 14 Caribbean states. Some of these activities include: (1) advancing of legislative practices for gender mainstreaming; (2) providing curricula and advisory services to women’s organizations and (3) providing technical support to parliamentary stakeholders related to gender responsive open parliament practices.

Expected Results:
The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (1) increased and more meaningful participation of women in all their diversity in political leadership and decision-making processes in the Caribbean; (2) improved access by women to open and gender responsive governance structures and decision-making processes in the Caribbean; and (3) increased gender-sensitive actions by parliamentarians in the Caribbean on regional issues, including sustainable development and climate action.
