Description:

This Project aims to reduce the incidence of COVID-19 related death and serious illness, particularly amongst priority groups and vulnerable populations, by increasing equitable access to and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines in five countries in the African region. The Project will support health systems strengthening to enable the delivery of gender-equitable COVID-19 vaccination and routine health services.

With GAC’s support, the World Health Organization (WHO) is working in Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Senegal and Tanzania to promote effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increase donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthen mutual accountability.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased COVID-19 vaccination rates among high priority groups in five countries. For example: healthcare workers, the elderly, essential workers, pregnant women, people in hard to reach areas and those with multiple medical conditions; (2) strengthened health systems in five countries to successfully distribute and deliver COVID-19 vaccines; and (3) immunized populations using gender-responsive strategies.
