Description:

This project aims to improve maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the hinterland regions of Guyana. Project activities include: (1) providing regular obstetrician care in all community health facilities; (2) providing training in counselling for contraception and family planning at all community health facilities; and (3) providing training on advanced neonatal care to physicians and staff at Regional Hospitals. This project targets women of reproductive age, particularly pregnant women, their infants, and adolescent girls in the hinterland regions of Guyana.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased access to and utilization of health services that respond to the needs of poor women, pregnant women, mothers and infants in four regions of Guyana; and (2) improved effectiveness and efficiency of gender-responsive health services for poor women, mothers and infants in four regions of Guyana.
