Description:
This project continues and builds on past support to the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and seeks to address urgent peacebuilding needs in fragile and conflict-affected states through locally-led, gender and youth-responsive, catalytic investments. Project activities include: (1) supporting fast and flexible initiatives that address gender and youth inclusion; (2) facilitating United Nations transitions from peacekeeping to local level peacebuilding; and (3) supporting cross-border and regional programs.

Expected Results:

The expected results of this project include: (1) Establish additional and better nationally-led peacebuilding and prevention interventions, including in cross-border and transition contexts and in support of more inclusion of women and youth; (2) achieve more investments in peacebuilding fund at country level, help unblock critical processes, and enable innovative approaches for peacebuilding and prevention; and (3) implement more coherent and integrated approaches to peacebuilding in a timely manner.

Peace and Stabilization Operations
Program Purpose:

The Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOPs) is an integral component of the Government of Canada’s toolbox to prevent and respond to conflicts and crises abroad. It supports rapid, effective, whole-of-government coordinated responses to a wide range of challenges and serves as a valuable instrument for supporting stability in conflict-affected regions. PSOPs provides visible and concrete assistance in response to conflicts and crises abroad through targeted programming, the deployment of Canadian police officers (in partnership with Public Safety Canada and the RCMP) and civilian personnel, and direct support to the UN and multilateral peace operations, conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding efforts.
