Description:
July 2023 – Afghanistan continues to experience deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with high levels of need cutting across all provinces and sectors. In 2023, an estimated 28.8 million people require humanitarian assistance due to the impacts of many years of conflict, chronic food insecurity, displacement, the coronavirus (COVID-19), broad economic crisis, and climatic events. With GAC’s support, Aga Khan Foundation Canada helps provide life-saving health, nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene assistance to 124,123 people in need across four provinces in Afghanistan. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency health assistance; (2) providing community-based emergency nutrition support; (3) providing mental health and psychosocial support; (4) providing urgent support for therapeutic feeding units; and (5) supporting the emergency repair of water points.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved access to lifesaving nutrition services; (2) enhanced access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; and (3) increased access to emergency health services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
