April 2024 – In 2024, about 300 million people worldwide will need humanitarian assistance and protection due to ongoing conflicts, natural disasters and disease outbreaks. In response to these needs, GAC’s humanitarian assistance provides predictable, multi-year, multi-country support to longstanding partners globally in lengthy humanitarian contexts.
With GAC’s support, this project provides life-saving assistance to over 85,000 beneficiaries, including refugees, internally displaced people, and vulnerable host communities in Cameroon, Haiti, Mali, and Niger. Project activities include: (1) training local service providers on key child protection topics; (2) establishing child protection services, such as safe spaces and child protection committees; (3) raising awareness on Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention and response within communities; and (4) improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) access by improving WASH facilities and distributing essential WASH items to children, adolescents and their households.
Expected Results:
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased availability of age and gender-sensitive child protection services and strengthened capacity for SGBV prevention amongst children, adolescents, and adults; (2) increased equitable access to SGBV prevention and psychosocial support for survivors, at-risk girls and young women; and (4) increased availability of gender and age responsive WASH facilities.
The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated, and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
