Description:
The United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Sustainable Development of the Brazilian Legal Amazon (or “MPTF Amazonia”) aims to support both sustainable livelihoods and the sustainable use of biodiversity in the Amazon. It does this by giving funding to UN agencies and Amazonian States to implement projects that: support sustainable and inclusive economic development in harmony with natural ecosystems; and improve the management of such issues as urban solid waste.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) governance mechanisms strengthened to promote sustainable territorial development and the effectiveness of national laws, reducing illicit activities; (2) sustainable and inclusive economic development in harmony with natural ecosystems promoted, with a view to transitioning to a new model of regional development; (3) population living in the region (forest, rural areas and urban centers) empowered and sustainable cities and human settlements supported; and (4) management of socio-environmental issues strengthened (e.g., urban solid waste, greenhouse gas emissions, pollutants in the air, water and soil).
