Agreement Value:
$5,200,000.00
Agreement Date:
Jan 7, 2025 - Mar 31, 2027
Description:
Sudan is facing one of the world’s most severe and complex humanitarian crises, driven by armed conflict, mass displacement, economic collapse, weakened state institutions, recurring disease outbreaks, escalating natural disasters and climate shocks. The ongoing conflict has had enormous impacts in the region and has resulted in the largest internally displaced population globally and the collapse of livelihoods, markets, and services across the country. More than half the population are in need of humanitarian assistance. With GAC’s support, ADRA Canada aims to address the life-saving protection and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs of conflict-affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in El-Gezira, North Darfur and White Nile, with a particular focus on women and girls. Project activities include: (1) providing age-appropriate, gender-responsive and inclusive protection services, referrals and case management support; (2) raising awareness among community members, including men and boys, on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV); (3) providing multi-purpose cash assistance to vulnerable households; (4) rehabilitating gender-responsive and inclusive water systems, latrines and handwashing facilities; and (5) sensitizing community members on safe and environmentally-friendly hygiene practices.
Organization:
Global Affairs Canada
Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased utilization of age- appropriate, gender-responsive and inclusive life-saving protection services by vulnerable people; (2) increased utilization of gender-responsive and inclusive life-saving multi-purpose cash assistance; and (3) increased utilization of safe drinking water and gender-sensitive, age- and culturally appropriate and environmentally-friendly sanitation and hygiene services. Especially, this is done among women, girls and other vulnerable people such as the elderly, people with disabilities and pregnant and breastfeeding people.

The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
