Description:
The Project is a national initiative delivered across eight components over six fiscal years as part of a broader effort implemented by the Inter-Council Network (ICN), a coalition of eight provincial and regional councils for international cooperation. As one component of this larger initiative, the Project strengthens public engagement on global issues and supports the contribution of people across Canada to international cooperation efforts. The Project increases understanding of global challenges through coordinated outreach, capacity-building, and youth engagement. It reaches communities that are often underserved by centralized engagement models, including Indigenous communities, diaspora groups, youth, professional associations, and rural populations. These groups are the primary beneficiaries of the Project’s activities. In Atlantic Canada, the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) works with civil society stakeholders to foster leadership through dialogue, programming, and public engagement that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Project enhances the ability of people and organizations in the region to participate meaningfully in Canada’s international cooperation efforts. The Project activities include: (1) strengthening public awareness of global issues by implementing storytelling initiatives, awareness campaigns, and International Development Week (IDW) activities; (2) improving the capacity of individuals and organizations to engage with global issues by organizing regional gatherings and producing research and policy briefs; and (3) expanding access to learning opportunities by delivering trainings and administering micro-grants that support community-driven global citizenship initiatives.
Organization:
Global Affairs Canada
Expected Results:

The ultimate outcome of the Project is to enhance the support for Canada’s international development assistance, including gender equality, by people across the Atlantic region of Canada as global citizens, especially youth and underrepresented communities. The Project achieves this outcome through public engagement and capacity-building programming that directly reaches 226,313 beneficiaries across the Atlantic region over the five-year period. Beneficiaries include women, gender-diverse individuals, youth, and residents of rural, Indigenous, and diaspora communities. The Project also reaches an estimated 332,050 people annually through digital and traditional communications.

The expected outcomes of this Project include: (1) increased involvement of people across Canada, including underrepresented populations, as global citizens in international development assistance in support of gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); (2) increased effectiveness of Canadian partners in delivering inclusive global citizenship initiatives in support of international development assistance for people across Canada, including underrepresented populations; and (3) strengthened pan-Canadian coordination and knowledge-sharing that enhances the collective contribution of regional and national actors to global citizenship efforts.
