The ultimate outcome of the Project is to enhance the support for Canada’s international development assistance, including gender equality, by people across Saskatchewan as global citizens, especially youth and underrepresented communities. The Project achieves this through programming that incorporates effective public engagement and global citizenship strategies and capacity-building activities. It directly engages 19,666 beneficiaries across Saskatchewan over five years, representing diverse social, cultural, linguistic, and gender identities. Engagement includes young and emerging leaders from ages 6 to 35, students, and educators across urban, suburban, rural, and northern communities, with intentional outreach to marginalized populations, including Indigenous youth and LGBTQ2+ youth. Beyond direct programming, the Project reaches 45,000 people through digital and traditional media to raise awareness and mobilize the public on international cooperation.
The expected outcomes of this Project include: (1) increased involvement of people across Canada, including underrepresented populations, as global citizens in international development assistance in support of gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); (2) increased effectiveness of Canadian partners in delivering inclusive global citizenship initiatives in support of international development assistance for people across Canada, including underrepresented populations; and (3) strengthened pan-Canadian coordination and knowledge-sharing that enhances the collective contribution of regional and national actors to global citizenship efforts.
The main purpose on the International Development Assistance Program is to reduce poverty for those living in countries where Global Affairs Canada engages in international development.
