Description:
The project supports the presence of up to 7 Indigenous artists from various Arctic countries and northern Canada to participate in the exhibition opening and related events at Qillaniq – Circumpolar Art Exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada. Activities include artists’ participation in exhibition opening activities, meet and present artwork, network and exchange around shared themes or practices, and meet the public at talks and sessions.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) stronger connections among circumpolar Indigenous Peoples through artists; and (2) establishment of circumpolar Indigenous connections and seeding of future collaborative opportunities with participants and their broader networks.

Global Arctic Leadership Initiative
Program Purpose:

The purpose of the Global Arctic Leadership Initiative is to strengthen Canada’s global leadership in the Arctic. These funds are merged with the pre-existing Canadian International Arctic Fund program, in order to inspire a larger and more robust program that supports the achievement of three key objectives of the International Chapter of Canada’s Arctic and Northern Policy Framework (2019): ▪ Bolster Canadian leadership in multilateral forums where polar issues are discussed and decided upon; ▪ Enhance representation and participation of Arctic and northern Canadians in relevant international forums and negotiations; and ▪ Ensure the Canadian Arctic and North and its people are safe, secure and well-defended (operational funding).
