Description:
This initiative seeks to improve the quality of education for primary and secondary students by increasing the number of qualified female and male teachers and improving the quality of the training they receive. The Government of Tanzania has identified the improvement and expansion of the infrastructure of education institutions as an important step in improving the quality of teacher training and of education. An improved physical learning environment for teachers helps to attract new recruits and ensures that teacher trainees are motivated and equipped to learn the skills they need to provide quality education to Tanzania’s primary and secondary school students. The project supports the repair and expansion of four teachers’ colleges in order to improve learning conditions for about 3,300 teacher trainees annually. The Government of Tanzania's Education Sector Development Program aims to build, expand and repair teachers’ colleges, including classrooms and student dormitories, furnish classrooms and dormitories, and equip laboratories so that the colleges are more conducive to learning and can accommodate larger numbers of future teachers.
