Description:
This project aims to mitigate the impact of the influx of internally displaced persons in the most affected communities of northern Iraq by increasing the resilience of service providers and improving their capacity to effectively respond to the various issues in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector (WASH). It also complements Canada’s existing humanitarian relief efforts for internally displaced persons in Iraq, thereby leveraging Canada’s response to the crisis for greater impact. Project activities include: (1) investing in community WASH services; (2) improving the water treatment of the Dohuk landfill site; (3) training municipal authorities and key service providers in delivering WASH services; and (4) establishing small-scale rehabilitation and awareness projects with community organisations. With GAC’s support, the ACTED is rehabilitating and improving WASH for over 120,000 host-community members and internally displaced persons in the Dohuk Governorate.
