This project is part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. The IYIP is designed to offer Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience in international development. United Nations Association in Canada sends 100 interns to ten different countries as part of its International Development and Diplomacy Internship Programme (IDDIP). This programme is designed to support the development implementation plans and strategies of a range of United Nations agencies in various countries. The young interns help to advance Canadian development priorities such as securing the future of children and youth, advancing democracy, increasing food security, and stimulating sustainable economic growth.

Expected Results:

Program Purpose:

The International Youth Internship Program is intended to:
provide eligible Canadian youth with international experience, skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future employment;
increase employment opportunities by promoting awareness among Canadian organizations of the advantages of integrating young Canadian professionals into their structures and programs;
provide opportunities for Canadian youth to increase their awareness, deepen their understanding as global citizens, and engage in international development; and
contribute to the advancement of Global Affairs Canada’s mandate to reduce poverty and inequality, promote human rights and increase sustainable development, and to meet Global Affairs Canada’s priorities for official development assistance.
