This project aims to reduce the barriers that those affected by sexual misconduct within the Defence community experience in accessing support services. This will be met by offering a range of education, training, research, public awareness, resources, and community development activities that: Increase access to Avalon’s trauma informed supports that are specific to meet and address the needs of the CAF community; Improve sexual misconduct knowledge among professional groups/service providers, those who have experienced sexual misconduct, community partners, the media, and the general public; and Effect institutional change by influencing oppressive systemic beliefs and practices such as stigmas and gender-based violence.

Expected Results:

The expected results of this project are:
1. Increased capacity of service providers, organizations, and communities to respond to and support those affected by sexual misconduct within the Defence community and to prevent future systems of oppression, with an emphasis on marginalized and racialized populations.

  1. Create Broad public awareness and understanding of sexualized and gender-based violence.

  2. Increased community mobilization/engagement regarding sexual misconduct initiatives and more formalized strategic sexual misconduct response at an institutional level.

  3. Increased number of people who have experienced sexual misconduct in the Defence community seeking supports and services.
