Grants and Contributions:
The objectives of the WRG are to support greater workforce retention while businesses retool and adapt while business are using the Work-Sharing (WS) program to prevent layoffs in all sectors, including among trade-exposed sectors, thereby aiding recovery and readiness for future business opportunities.
The outcomes of this program are to increase employer use of the grant to support training and retain skilled workers while participating in the Work-Sharing program. Overall, the program seeks to strengthen worker attachment to their employers and the broader labour market. These outcomes are expected to help employers retain skilled employees and meet emerging workforce needs in key sectors of the economy.
The program allows employers on Work-sharing to increase access to training and upskilling opportunities so workers can adapt to changing skills requirements and remain resilient in the labour market. The program aims to support workers in receipt of Work-Sharing EI benefits monetarily to participating in training initiatives, thereby enhancing their skills while reducing layoffs.
