Description:
The Worker Retention Grant provides funding to employers with an approved and implemented Work-Sharing agreement. Employers can use this funding to provide a weekly income top-up to workers who have reduced hours and are taking training while receiving Work-Sharing Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. The WRG is designed to increase uptake of training for workers while on WS to improve resiliency during the adjustment period by, helping workers maintain employment while receiving a larger proportion of total income through the grant.

Expected Results:

The objectives of the WRG are to support greater workforce retention while businesses retool and adapt while business are using the Work-Sharing (WS) program to prevent layoffs in all sectors, including among trade-exposed sectors, thereby aiding recovery and readiness for future business opportunities.
The outcomes of this program are to increase employer use of the grant to support training and retain skilled workers while participating in the Work-Sharing program. Overall, the program seeks to strengthen worker attachment to their employers and the broader labour market. These outcomes are expected to help employers retain skilled employees and meet emerging workforce needs in key sectors of the economy.
