Description:
The ELCC Data and Research stream aims to:
- support a range of data and research activities to help identify and address data and research gaps for ELCC and Indigenous ELCC in support of the Government of Canada’s priorities
enhance knowledge exchange across a diverse range of disciplines related to ELCC and Indigenous ELCC
- improve and enhance domestic data collection for national and international reporting purposes, to inform policy and decision-making
- build on knowledge of international best practices in order to support the department in policy development in areas of quality, accessibility, affordability, flexibility, and inclusivity of ELCC in Canada, thereby contributing to the development of a Canada-wide child care system
- facilitate Canada’s participation in long-term projects with organizations such as the OECD or UNESCO that brings together multiple countries to exchange information, produce research and data analysis, and collaborate on best practices in key emerging areas of ELCC
- collaborate with provinces and territories through participation in international ELCC projects, through data sharing, exchange of best practices and other collaborations, which can contribute to future work on a Canada-wide child care system. Collaboration through this funding stream would support direct participation by contributing to the cost requested by international organizations for data or research projects. Collaboration of this kind would be beneficial to project outcomes with increased data and information sharing

Expected Results:
The expected results are:
- More domestic and Indigenous governments, communities and organizations are funded and supported to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research on existing and emerging issues related to ELCC
- New relationships are built with key stakeholders and Indigenous organizations governments, communities and individual experts looking to undertake research endeavours on data and research related to ELCC
- Sound research and best practices are developed on existing and emerging issues related to ELCC and in alignment with the government’s priorities
- National and international data is improved for reporting purposes
- Indigenous organizations and governments have greater access to Government of Canada funding to design, govern and lead their own community-based data and research projects with a view of building their own institutional capacity
- More international projects are funded and supported to conduct qualitative and quantitative research on existing and emerging issues related to ELCC
Stronger relationships with provinces and territories and international partners on best practices related to ELCC priorities
- Sound research and best practices in an international context are developed on existing and emerging issues related to ELCC and in alignment with the government’s priorities
