Description:

The objectives for CSC are to create, promote and facilitate access to service opportunities that are meaningful to young Canadian, and support lasting civic engagement, as well as to provide youth with life and work skills.

Expected Results:

This project will include the development of volunteer opportunities in collaboration with other not-for-profit organizations; in-kind and financial supports to not-for-profits; matching, onboarding, training and supports for student participants, including additional supports for students facing technological or other barriers; the vetting of service placements to ensure they meet program eligibility requirements; facilitating the posting of service placements on the I want to Help platform; technological infrastructure and processes to register students; the validation of service hours and other due diligence to ensure eligible students receive the grant; and the disbursement of Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) cash awards, which recognize the voluntary contributions of students to the community response to COVID-19. Through this project, students will gain valuable skills and experience and be recognized for their volunteer efforts with financial awards to help pay for their post-secondary education.

Funding consists of:
Management of cash awards
- $500,000,000 in cash award funding to be disbursed directly to eligible CSSG students and recent graduates.
- $19,500,000 is to be used to support program delivery costs for an initial 20,000 service placements (Cohort 1), including $5,000,000 to be redistributed to not-for-profit partners and $300,000 to project participants to support accessibility to the program.
- $13,530,000 may be subsequently used to support program delivery costs for an additional 20,000 (Cohort 2) service placements should there be demand, including $3,750,000 to be redistributed to not-for-profit partners and $300,000 to program participants to support accessibility to the program.
- $10,500,000 is to be used to support the disbursement of the cash awards to up to an additional 60,000 eligible students (Supplementary cohort via the I Want to Help platform).
