Description:
The Recipient will engage in meaningful two-way dialogue regarding economic participation in the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, to benefit their communities. The following activities will be undertaken: participation in bilateral and/or multilateral meetings organized by Finance Canada, through methods including virtual and teleconference capacity, in-person, or written submissions. Participation includes, but is not limited to: gathering and representing the views of the Participant’s community members, acquiring external expertise (e.g., legal, financial, economic), preparing verbal and/or written reports, committing staff hours, and travelling to meet with Finance Canada officials in support of the engagement process and the formation of well-informed views.

Expected Results:

It is expected that the Indigenous Participant Funding Program will help to support the meaningful participation of Indigenous groups in consultation, engagement processes, and similar initiatives led by the Department of Finance or within the Minister of Finance’s purview. As well, the Program is expected to help support the Department of Finance’s priorities regarding economic and social policy, including its work with other departments to support reconciliation and establish a new fiscal relationship with Indigenous Peoples.

The objective of Indigenous Participant Funding Program is to help ensure Indigenous Peoples have sufficient financial resources to participate meaningfully in departmental activities consistent with the Government of Canada’s priorities related to Indigenous reconciliation and economic development. The Program is intended for contribution agreements with Indigenous groups that participate in departmental activities, such as consultations, engagements, or similar initiatives.
