Description:
The Council of Yukon First Nations launched Moccasin Mobile Outreach in February 2024 as part of a strategy to enhance safety and supports in downtown Whitehorse. Operating four nights a week, the service offers clothing, snacks, cultural connection, and harm reduction supplies aimed at overdose prevention. Staff are trained to provide first aid, naloxone, and mental health supports, as well as referrals to shelters, meals, and emergency services. With this funding, Moccasin Mobile Outreach will expand its after-hours and weekend supports in downtown Whitehorse, continuing to meet people where they are and reduce barriers for vulnerable individuals. The service will provide essentials, cultural connection, and an increased supply of harm reduction materials to prevent overdoses and support safer substance use.
