Mitacs is expected to achieve the following results: Students, graduates and start-ups have access to work-integrated learning opportunities; Participation in Mitacs programs fosters the potential for collaboration between academia and industry and across sectors; Scientfic knowledge and investments in R&D are enhanced as a result of the internship; Postsecondary students and postdoctoral fellows who have completed an internship improve their skills and on-the-job experience; Educated professionals pursue science and technology-related jobs in Canada; and Participating organizations innovate and grow

The purpose of the Program is to provide contributions to Mitacs is to support the attraction, training, retention, and deployment of highly qualified personnel with the ultimate goal of strengthening research and innovation in Canada, and help Canadian start-ups housed in college/polytechnic and university-linked incubators commercialize and scale up through increased access to global markets.
