Description:
In May 2017, the Premier of Quebec announced the Chemin de fer de la Gaspésie railway rehabilitation project for resumption of passenger and freight rail transport over the entire 325 km of the network (the project will involve three sections). The rehabilitation of the Chemin de fer de la Gaspésie is important for the socioeconomic development of the region. Large corporations, including one based in Gaspé, use the train to ship freight from New Richmond. Restoring rail transport as far as Gaspé will promote and stimulate economic growth in the Gaspé region. In order to improve the resilience to climate change of Highway 132, a vital transportation corridor for both goods and people in the Gaspé region, an infrastructure program is under development. This program involves the construction and refurbishment of coastal protection infrastructures, shoreline stabilization and the relocation of segments of the highway in order to preserve the integrity of the infrastructures.
