Description:
The Washbrook Greenway Trail will serve as a 2.6 kilometer, fully accessible, active transportation connector joining Wentworth Park in the center of the City with the Baille Ard Nature Trail System in the south-end of the City. Connecting these hubs will tie Sydney's existing trails together thereby expanding Active Transportation alternative routes, create a connector which will encourage Active Transportation from a heavily populated residential neighborhood to the downtown core as well as facilitate outdoor recreation for, residents of and visitors, to the City.
Key activities
1. Construct the 1.6 kilometer off-road trail bed along the Washbrook.
2. Install up to four pedestrian/cyclist, accessible bridges across the Washbrook.
3. Install directional signage using a combination of four languages along the
sidewalk portion of the trail.
4. Construct and install interpretative signage to identify species and share local heritage and history.
5. Enhance the Southend Public Garden space with the addition of spur pathways linking to main trail, a fruit orchard, additional benches, trees and signage.
6. Construct wetlands in three areas along the trail including trail loops and viewing platforms.
