Description:
There are two linear parks in Les Laurentides Regional County Municipality (MRC): the P’tit Train du Nord and the Aerobic Corridor. In Chapter 2 of its land use and development plan, which came into effect in 2000, Les Laurentides MRC states that its objective is to offer a more diversified and better integrated recreational tourism product, in particular through the implementation of a widely known recreational tourism network based on the P’tit Train du Nord Regional Linear Park and the Aerobic Corridor Regional Park. In Chapter 6, under Recreational Network Planning, the MRC identifies a project to interconnect the Aerobic Corridor Regional Park and the P’tit Train du Nord Regional Linear Park. That project is the subject of this application. It has been at the planning stage for more than two decades and has both regional support and the support of the local municipalities that make up the MRC. The two linear parks also cross through the neighbouring MRC to the east and are interconnected there. The Aerobic Corridor is an exceptionally scenic linear park that traverses the municipalities of Montcalm, Arundel, Huberdeau and Amherst, four local municipalities in the southern part of Les Laurentides MRC that have a negative economic vitality index (as determined by the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation du Québec). Unlike the P’tit Train du Nord, which is very popular, the Aerobic Corridor remains relatively unknown to visitors and local and regional residents, despite the various promotional and advertising activities carried out in recent years. The most recent data shows higher use since 2020 because of the pandemic. Looping the western portion of the Aerobic Corridor (within Les Laurentides MRC) would make it a completely integrated cycling circuit in connection with the P’tit Tr
