Title:
A redesigned school zone to encourage active mobility for Candiac schoolchildren
Agreement Number:
-
Agreement Value:
$48,295.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 2, 2024 - Mar 31, 2026
Description:
"The objective of the project is to encourage students attending the three partner schools and their parents to change their mode of transportation and stop driving in the school zone around Fernand Séguin Park. Mobilization to use active transportation is essential to maximize stakeholder engagement. Consequently, the project includes the following: the design of three maps identifying preferred school routes for active transportation on a daily basis, and drop-off zones to encourage parents to stop driving in the school zone; participation by the school board, the three partner schools and the Intermunicipal Police Board in the implementation of safe school routes; posting of the three maps on the Town’s Internet accounts and transmission to schools for inclusion in school materials (e.g., agendas); meeting with the three schools to identify promotion methods and how to implement them. The Town also plans to prepare concrete plans that technically and graphically describe the development and improvement of active transportation networks; it will also prepare detailed cost estimates. The plans will provide attractive, safe facilities that support active travel year-round. Funding from the Active Transportation Fund is critical. It will bring together all the key elements required to ensure safe and active mobility in this school zone. The Town will also have access to external studies."
