Title:
Multifunction trail linking the Maison des aînés and the Carrefour Santé Globale to the City of Magog
Agreement Number:
-
Agreement Value:
$50,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 3, 2025 - Mar 31, 2026
Description:
The City of Magog wants to carry out a feasibility study and design a multifunctional trail for active transportation linking the current network to the Carrefour Santé Globale, near Highway 112. In particular , this will provide safe access to several local businesses (supermarket, sports store) and health services (medical clinic, physiotherapy, gyms, etc.). Currently, Highway 112 has no sidewalks or bike lanes, and the speed limit is 70 km/h. Active transportation in this area is dangerous and seldom used. That part of Magog is very densely populated as the majority of the housing there consists of multi-story condo towers (Club Azure, Memphré Club, Étoile du lac, etc.). In addition, construction is underway on the Maison des ainés (seniors residence), which will house about 50 special-care individuals, and there will be no health care facilities or local businesses within safe walking distance. In short, by creating this link, the City of Magog will achieve the following: -Ensure the safety of active transportation users along Highway 112 -Encourage walking and cycling in this area -Reduce local residents’ dependence on cars -Provide a safe link between the seniors residence and Carrefour Santé Globale for that vulnerable group -Extend the Merry bicycle path linking the downtown area to the western part of the city
